A little Class Gathering

Went out for class gathering today. Was supposed to reach Bugis MRT station at 1pm. But guess what i'm doing at 1pm? I was shitting! LOL.

Was only able to reach at almost 1.25pm but i wasn't the only one late. There were only Eeden and Eileen. So we headed for the National Library, which was our ideal place to study.

It's was super crowded surprisingly! We searched B1, 5th storey and even the upper levels... Non was able to provide us a conducive place to study. So Andrik told us about this Coffee Bean place which took us super long to find it. His descriptions totally doesn't tally with what we see. But heh, we found it at last, braving through the bloody rain. Humidly Singapore~!

Eileen and me went to buy cake, she took a very nicely done tiramisu cake, while me, i remembered few years back, i accompanied this girl, she bought a Chicago Cheesecake for her mom. So i tried this cake, it was surprisingly good even with it's plain outlook :O

When Zachary and Rosalia reached, we changed our venue to SMU. It was like an underground studying area. I find that the light was rather dim and the air was stiff, but then the others say it's ok. So we stayed.

All along i was copying like mad. FMA and then QA. Eileen is super NICE!!! Very easy to talk to. We had all sorts of funny topics. With me and zach suggesting going malaysia for class outing and some to bintam batam whatever tam.

TIM TAM SLAM!

Oh, LOL, that was random.

I skipped all the talking and boring parts, Eileen and Eeden went home for dinner at almost 7pm, while Rosalia, Zach and me went to eat Thai food. It was super spicy. Had stomachache after that :(

Sian sia. Must study!

A Troubled User

Dear Tech Support Team:

Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 5.0 to Wife 1.0.
I soon noticed that the new program,
Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and
now monitors all other system activities.

Applications such as
BachelorNights 10.3,
Football 5.0,
BeerWithBuddies 7.5,
and Outings 3.6 no longer runs,
crashing the system whenever selected.
I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background
while attempting to run my favorite applications.
I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 5.0 ,
but the 'uninstall' doesn't work on Wife 1.0.
Please help!
Thanks,
"A Troubled User"

REPLY:
Dear Troubled User:

This is a very common problem that people complain about.
Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 5.0 to Wife 1.0 ,
thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program..
Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by
its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!!
It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 5.0.
It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from
the system once installed.
You cannot go back to Girlfriend 5.0 because
Wife 1.0 is designed not to allow this.
I recommend that you keep Wife1.0 and work
on improving the environment.
I suggest installing the background
application "Yes Dear" to alleviate software augmentation.
The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE
because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before
the system will return to normal anyway.

Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance.
Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as
Clean 2.5,
Sweep 3.0,
Cook 1.5 and
DoLaundry 4.2..
However, be very careful how you use these programs.
Improper use will cause the system to launch the program NagNag 9.5 .
Once this happens, the only way to improve the
performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software.
I recommend Clothes 2.1 and Jewellery 5.0

STATUTORY WARNING
: DO NOT, under any circumstances, install SecretaryWithShortSkirt 3.3.
This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system

Ubuntu 9.04

Ubuntu Fixed Computer Shutdown Problem

WOOT! Finally got it working after 1 whole night.

I simply edited this file:

/etc/init.d/alsa-utils

and added the lines:

ifconfig wlan0 down
ifconfig eth0 down

after "stop)" in the file (around line 353), so it looks like this:

stop)
ifconfig wlan0 down
ifconfig eth0 down
EXITSTATUS=0

:D

ok. better method which doesn't touch the sound part.

Details:

1. Open a terminal and become super-user (yeah, this is a bad security practice, but I'm too lazy to type sudo before everything).

Code:
su
2. Navigate to the init.d directory.
Code:
cd /etc/init.d
3. Touch and edit your new wireless shutdown script. I use "vi," but feel free to use "gedit" if you like.
Code:
vi killwlan
4. Add line(s) that "modprobe -r" your wireless driver module(s). In MY case, I remove "iwlagn" modules. In YOUR case, you'll need to find out the module names being used by your wireless device.
Code:
modprobe -r iwlagn
5. Save the script and exit the text editor.
Code:
[ESC] :wq [ENTER]
6. Navigate to the rc0.d directory.
Code:
cd /etc/rc0.d
7. Create a link to your killwlan script.
Code:
ln -sT /etc/init.d/killwlan S16killwlan
8. Navigate to the rc6.d directory.
Code:
cd /etc/rc6.d
9. Create a link to your killwlan script.
Code:
ln -sT /etc/init.d/killwlan S16killwlan
10. Now try to shutdown or restart.
Code:
init 6

File permission if needed:

Code:
cd /etc/init.d/
sudo chmod 755 killwlan

Computer Rampage!

Oh my god! Went out today taking train from Kallang all the way to Jurong East and then to Choa Chu Kang. Shengjie was the one who did that to me :( His uncle and auntie need help reformatting computers.

Oh well, was really damn early, that bastard reached very late leh. Went to Northview de condominium, nice leh, but the beach color not so. Well, started off with this desktop which was fairly good. We started by using the disc that his uncle got, but to no avail, it failed half way through, drive.cab was not able to be copied to the system successfully, so we tried Shengjie's DELL XP disc instead.

While waiting... we had our PIZZA!!! Woot, quite a long time since i ate pizza, wasn't that bad after all. Oh, and his brother was actually engaged! So the house we went to was actually shengjie's brother's girlfriend's ( or rather wife? ) father's house! WOW, complicated eh?

And they had a really FAT hamster! OMG, it looked really lazy! LOL. No wonder so PHAT.

We carried on with our reformatting of the PC, but we could only get the LAN driver installed, somehow when we tried to put in the motherboard drivers CD, it hanged. The rest of the CDs worked fine though, so we actually skipped the drivers and went on to Wireless Driver, which they had, and it was a Linksys little wireless thingy. But we were only able to connect them WITHOUT internet access :(

We failed and got a little chat with the uncle while we try the adapter on the other computer, and it worked out fine. So my guess was the windows part. Somehow, i've got this hunch that XP PRO will work.

Took MRT to Marsiling, there was this guy who came to fetch us. Walked a pretty long distance from the MRT station until we reached his house. He was very easy to talk to and very willing to learn. He kept asking us what we were doing and how to go about doing.

It was a smoothed installation and reformatting, he basically had everything ready for us :) No problem at all except that his PC was pretty old and so it took quite a while. His complained that his laptop was lagging, we were able to know why he said that, end up it was his internet explorer that caused the problem, so we suggested him to switch to Google Chrome instead and he gladly accepted :)

Oh well, i will skipped the boring parts, we left the house with everyone happy and a little exhausted from the whole day of travelling. Oh and his auntie quite pretty leh. Hahhaha.

Anyway, went back home, had dinner and went to Bugis to find CC and SC. Ate TAO HUAY and YOU TIAO! (: Listen to CC talk cock. And now i'm back home blogging this. Might play dota later.

POSB queue sucks! UOB FTW!

10:40 am Next, OpenCL. Over 1 teraflop power in GPUs now. The current way to use this power is with OpenGL, but it's limited to graphics and games. Apple wants to use this power for all sorts of things, and thus has built OpenCL (C stands for computing). Hardware abstraction, C-based language, automatic optimization, numerical accuracy (can be used for scientific calculations). Open standard that many companies are participating in.
10:37 am 64bit enables use of the large amounts of RAM computers now have, math calculations are 2X faster. Multi-core presents a challenge -- how to make best use of them. Current methods don't provide granular enough control over them. Grand Central Station, built into Snow Leopard, solves this problem.
10:35 am Computers now have GBs of RAM, multi-core/64-bit capable CPUs, GPUs with massive amounts of raw processing power. To take advantage of all of this, you need the right software.
10:34 am The demo has ended. Bertrand has retaken the stage. Now talking about the new powerful foundation technologies.

10:30 am Now demoing Expose. Simply click and hold on a Dock icon and Expose shows all of the app's windows. Windows are better organized in Expose now. Can work within a window without closing Expose and bringing all windows back.
10:28 am Stacks handle lots of content better -- scrolling, drilling into folders. Finder lets you magnify thumbnails on the fly, similar to iPhoto. Can step through multi-page documents and play videos right through Finder.
10:27 am Craig Federighi, VP of Mac OS Engineering is on stage for the demo. He is going to cover three areas -- starting with Dock and the finder.
10:27 am Quicktime player has a brand new interface -- the content is the focus, not the application. Now demoing Snow Leopard.
10:26 am Safari is 7.8X faster at JavaScript than IE8 (Chrome is only 5X faster). Passes Acid3 test; IE8 only gets 21%. Safari 4 is included with Snow Leopard -- with some added features. Crash resistance (sandboxes plugins), 50% faster JS thanks to 64-bit, new and faster Quicktime (hardware accelerated, new streaming method that works with any webserver).
10:23 am Mail is up to 2.3X faster. Safari 4 features Top Sites -- been in beta for a couple of months -- final version is released today on all platforms (Leopard, Tiger, Windows).
10:23 am Preview is now up to 2X faster, better text selection in PDF (using a "little bit of AI"). Better Chinese text input, just like on the iPhone -- uses the trackpad to draw characters.
10:21 am Built Expose into the Dock. Click and hold on an app icon, and all of its open windows appear in typical Expose style. 45% faster installation of the OS. Recover over 6GB of disk space after upgrading from Leopard.
10:21 am Refined over 90% of core OS pieces in Snow Leopard. Rewrote Finder in Cocoa, which results in lots of extra features.
10:19 am Apple has come from a different place -- they love Leopard and wanted to build upon it. They set a challenge for themselves to build a better Leopard -- lots of refinement, powerful new technologies, and Exchange support.
10:18 am Microsoft is trying to get out of the hole they're in with Windows 7. However, they have the same set of problems as before; registry, DLLs, defragmentation, etc. Windows 7 introduces even more complexity.
10:17 am OS X Leopard is the best selling software Apple has ever released. Users and press love it; best OS written for vast majority of consumers. Sharp contrast to Vista.
10:17 am Great hardware deserves great software. Bringing up Bertrand to talk about OS X.
10:16 am All of Apple's laptops meet the EP Gold and Energy Star v5 standards. The world's greenest line of laptops.

10:13 am At what point isn't this just a MacBook Pro? It can even expand to the same levels of RAM and HD as the MacBook Pros. The backlit keyboard is now standard in it as well. Also, FireWire 800.
10:12 am Updating the 13" MacBook today as well. Gets the new display, SD card slot and better battery life.
10:11 am The 17" MacBook Pro has also been updated -- 2.8GHz CPU, 500GB HD, retains ExpressCard Slot. All shipping today.
10:11 am Standard configurations range from $1,699 to $2,229.
10:10 am Starts at a lower price -- $1,699.
10:09 am But there's a lot more -- fastest notebook they have ever made. Up to 3.06 Dual Core CPU. Up to 8GB of RAM. Up to 500GB 7200RPM HD. Or, 256GB SSD.
10:08 am The new 15" has a brand new display; nicest in any of their laptops. 60% color gamut increase. Now has a SD card slot.
10:07 am Typical user will get 5 years of use before seeing diminished battery life. Most customers will never need to replace the battery. When it does need to be replaced, recycling options available at Apple stores.
10:07 am New battery, lasts up to 7 hours. More eco-friendly -- gets up to 1,000 charges.
10:06 am Customers love the unibody design. Even though Apple has a lead with the design, they want to take it further. All new 15" MacBook Pro.

Chicken McCrispy

I missed Chicken McCrispy :(

SNSD Girl Generation

WOW! I'm in love with SNSD Girl Generation sia. Beautiful girls, nice songs, good singers and dancers.

Piano Solo
Taeyeon - Can You Hear Me

Powerful Solo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu_z7zhgXrM

I realised some angles of her looks like Evon Ng sia! LOL!

Anyway. Yeah, their songs are nice.

I'm in dilemma whether i should crash DBA04 outing later. Should just let my mom go take the damn DVD Player herself since i can't claim it with my IC.

Oh yeah, for your information. I'm already at Kallang/Upp BoonKeng for a week already. It's quite a good place. Good food and location to go almost anywhere. Although going to school still seems quite a distance away, at least i don't have to exit and enter the train at Jurong East anymore (:

I should go get myself a shoe later on. Yeah. Right. A shoe. Tried asking JX, she said ok. Haha.

Had been wasting time trying to get the subtitles which worked on my PC to work on my new 40" Samsung LedTv Series 7. Anyone knows how ? It just doesn't wanna recognise my .srt subtitles! :(

P.S
I need to rest more and use lesser gadget stuffs.
